There is a lot of excitement about AI right now, and for good reason. It helps to know that not all AI does the same thing. Two families have grown up alongside each other, and NELDA is built squarely on one of them, on purpose.
Generative AI

Generative AI is remarkable at producing language and content. It writes documents, drafts emails, summarizes long notes, brainstorms ideas, and tells a good story. When the goal is to create something to read, it is a genuinely powerful tool.
Agentic AI
Built to take action.
Agentic AI is built to get work done. It looks at a real environment, decides what to do, uses the right tools, and carries out the task step by step, with a person in control. When the goal is reliable automation, this is the tool for the job.
How they fit together
One is the engine. The other is the operator.
These two ideas are not rivals. They work together. Generative models are often the engine inside an agentic system, the part that understands a question and explains an answer in plain language.
NELDA uses generative models for exactly that, so it can talk with you clearly about your network. But NELDA is an agentic system, because its job is not to write about network administration. Its job is to help you do it.
